Hello Mr. Martin, I am a professor in Teacher Education at Sacramento State University and our urban teacher preparation program has been in partnership with SNTHS for almost five years. We hold our Anthropology of Education class at the school and regularly participate in the life of the school. SNTHS students visit our class and clue our students into the cultural perspectives of high schoolers and what they expect and value from teachers. SNTHS students, faculty, staff and the administration are so welcoming to us, we feel a part of the school. I participate in the weekly faculty "critical friends" and have worked one on one with students and teachers over the course of the past few years. Our program, PULSE, is better for having the partnership with SNTHS and our student teachers are able to see what is possible and push back against the "daily grind" of traditional schooling. Finally, Principal Hanzel is the quintessential leader. She gives a million percent, is a fantastic professional developer, and tends to her flock with a diligence and commitment I have rarely seen in my 20+ years in the field. Kudos to SNTHS; after Florin High School, you are the school of my heart!!!!

Mr. Martin, I am a teacher at SNTHS that teaches kids and chemistry. I have been teaching there since the school opened in 2003-2004. This school provides many difficult challenges to both the students and the teachers, but it is like we tell the kids "if it was easy, it wouldn't be worth working for". Thank you for observing our school and our kids. I am very proud of my students and my school. I feel very lucky to be working in an environment where I feel like I have a say in what I do. I also feel proud that I think I am preparing kids for the 21st century and that I am making a difference in our future because of it. I am excited to read about other schools you visit. It is nice to hear about educational reform!
Thanks again,
Senna Davis

Mr. Martin, I'm a teacher on leave of absence from SNTHS, and I want to tell you that your shadowing gave you a lot of great-but accurate-insights on our school. It was a pleasure reading your report; sometimes when we are simply IN the environment of SNTHS, we fail to appreciate how extraordinary the place and its people are. I'm so proud of my colleagues and our students.
One of the things our WASC review team told us way back was that we succeed in part because we keep trying to improve. From your report I can tell that my colleagues have NOT rested on their laurels, and instead, they keep on innovating. I've bookmarked your blog so I can read about new ways that I can do the same.
-Tim Hebert
